The Apple iPod culture

What is wrong with people? Why do you continually buy into this complete and utter garbage? I went to Future Shop yesterday, and I couldn’t believe my eyes. There are accessories being sold that are specifically targeted toward iPod users. This is fine, but because they are “sanctioned” by Apple (ie earphones, cables, etc) they are being sold at inflated prices.

I cannot believe that people are dumb enough to pay 50% more simply because it has the Apple brand on it. Good grief…

It is a sign of a larger problem. I am starting to seriously wonder about this. There are some individuals that have the glazed eyes, excited looks, etc when you discuss the iPhone, iPod, etc. Is this MIND CONTROL of some sort? Look at the lines when a new Apple product is introduced.

If you don’t realize, APPLE IS NOT THE HOLY GRAIL. There is nothing wonderful about these products you purchase, except for the cute black box that it comes in.

YOU ARE NOT BUYING A PRODUCT.

Repetez, SVP…YOU ARE NOT BUYING A PRODUCT.

You are buying into a CULTURE. A culture of consumerism that is destroying the very soul of humanity.

While I can appreciate escapism as much as the next person, there are other alternatives.

It’s a war for your soul and control of your mind…

HLL: message should be in your gmail inbox. You’ve done a nice job with your new blog; you’re musings are first rate — as always. I keep going back to your June 08 photo on your tripod site; it’s so good and captures you so well – in my opinion – as your fellow traveler…
    Lots of love!

iPod…technicaly talking there many other devices are more advanced than the iPod and for cheaper in media player category.

Right now the iPod NANO 4GB is about 140$ in Canadian retails stores. Like Heidi, I like the Nintedo DS so I will compare with the Nintendo DS lite.

    Retail prices:

    Console/Player:
    -Nintendo DS lite: $130
    -iPod Nano 4GB: $140

    Storage :
    – Nintendo DS lite: Storage adapter $30 + $25 for 4GB* MicroSD card
    – iPod Nano 4GB: 4GB hdd included and not expandable
    * can be more as MicroSD card are not limited to 4GB

At first look Nintendo DS lite seems to be more expensive, what about looking at the features in deep?

    Audio formats supported:

    – iPod: AAC / Protected AAC / MP3 / Audible (2/3/4) / Apple Lossless / AIFF / WAV

    – NDS: FLAC / MP3 / OGG / MOD / SPC / MDX (no PCM) / GBS / HES / NSF / XM / MIDI / low bit rate AAC audio

    Video formats supported

    – iPod: Proprietary format
    – NDS: Proprietary format (DPG)

    PDA capability:

    iPod: No
    NDS: Yes

    Gaming capabilities:

    iPod: No
NDS: It was designed for it.

The list of features of the NDS is long. Like iPod you can get accessories and other gadget sometime usefull some other time useless.

Where are you going with it Paddy?

Headphones are headphones no matter if theya re tagged iPod compatible or not. A stereo Minijack (TRS connector) is stereo minijack. In 1907 the specs for it were already available in its mono version :http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Triple_Contact_Plug_1907.png .

So the headphones I was using the the 80s with my 3 LBS walkman are iPod compatible. If Apple, and the manufacturer who create electronic products, were saying the truth you would read: “Headphones with standard 3.5 mm connector where the range of frequencies been donwgraded as the compressed formats are lower quality than non compressed ones”. Most of the Media Player does not contain an AutoKill function allowing the manufactured to remotly put your device out of fucntion, remove content from it or even having access to it.

I hate iPod, they are ugly and the navigation on it suck. If you have $140 to spend on iPod why not bying a 60$ MP3 player and use the remaining for a good snack at the restaurant with your love one?

PS: Want to try this nice Italian restaurant in Port Credit this week-end? 😛
