Carroll woman’s answer to highly visible Obama: Selling her televisions

A 78-year-old Carroll woman says she’s so tired of seeing President Barack Obama on the airwaves that she’s selling her television sets – two of them.

Deloris Nissen, a retired nurses’ aide and former Kmart employee who was raised on a farm near Audubon, placed a classified advertisement with The Daily Times Herald for Friday’s paper.

In the $5.50 ad, Nissen tells readers she has two television sets for sale.

The reason: “Obama on every channel and station.”

In an interview Nissen said she is serious about selling two TVs – and genuine about her disgust with what she believes to be an overexposed president.

“I just got tired of watching him on every channel,” Nissen said. “I thought, my gosh, does he ever stay at the White House?”

Nissen, who voted for U.S. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., in the 2008 presidential election, said she could live with seeing Obama come on television to make serious announcements. But he seems to be on all the time, Nissen said.

When the president does appear on a channel she happens to be watching, Nissen said, she quickly turns.

“I have the remote real handy,” Nissen said. “I have the batteries. I’m ready for him.”

Nissen’s annoyance with the president as a frequent presence on her television doesn’t mean she’ll abandon the medium altogether.

She’s keeping a bigger flat-screen television and selling an older 20-inch Sony and possibly a 13-inch set.

“It’s too heavy,” Nissen said of the 20-inch TV. “I can’t handle it anymore.”

That said, she doesn’t plan on selling it for less than $100 – even if Obama was just on Tuesday pitching his health-care-reform plans.

Obama’s own advisers and political observers across the ideological spectrum have for months debated whether the now popular president is overexposed.

For her part, Nissen said she expects to take some flack for the advertisement in her local paper. After all, Obama did win Iowa and Carroll County in the 2008 election.

But she’s not worried about any criticism.

“I’m an old lady, and I don’t care,” Nissen said.

Dreams

Lately, I have been having vivid dreams about airplane crashes. Just a heads up. The one last night had to do with an airplane crashing into the Mississippi River. Sorry I cannot get more specific than that…

Babylon’s Ancient Wonder, Lying in Ruins

*Got this from whatreallyhappened. Think about it. If you do not want mankind to know its roots, what are you going to do?? I weep for these antiquities, for this is what I was most interested in. My heart breaks.*

One of the great crimes committed against the people of Iraq was the looting of the Baghdad Museum and the destruction of many important ancient sites inside Iraq.

I think that destruction of ancient sites is deliberate policy.

Egypt is literally littered with the ruins of the ancient temples and palaces of her rulers. As much as has been found, it is estimated that only 1/3 of Egypt’s archeological wonders have been uncovered. A newly discovered temple was uncovered while digging a sewer line, and a cache of finely preserved mummies was literally stumbled over by a cow in a pasture.

Iraq’s ancient heritage was enshrined in its ancient sites and museum. As a result of the war, many of those sites have been damaged or destroyed. Part of the ancient city or Ur now lies underneath a US air base runway. Nebuchadnezzar’s palace now lies underneath a US-built parking lot. The treasures of the museum have only partly been recovered. The treasures from the looted archaeological sites have been scattered to the world.

All of this wealth of archaeological treasures must of course annoy Israel. We are raised from birth with Old Testament tales of the greatness of the ancient Israelites, of the powerful kingdoms of Solomon and David and the first temple. Yet Israel, while rich in antiquities, is almost totally devoid of artifacts from this supposedly glorious time in her history. The existence of the fabled First Temple was supported with just two artifacts, a carved staff ornament in the shape of a pomegranate and the Jehoash tablet. Both of these artifacts have been exposed as frauds. We are told that once there was a magnificent temple on that hill, but it “all went away.”

The wonders emerging from the soil of Egypt, Iraq, and Iran serve as a constant reminder that ancient buildings of such a scale as we are told the First Temple was simply do not vanish without a trace.
There is considerable reason to suspect that the tales told in the Old Testament are just that; tales. The Bible is not science, it is the collected stories of a primitive tribal people telling each other how important they are. And like fishermen talking about the one that got away, or Ramses with his temple carvings of the did-not-really-happen victory over the Hittites at Kadesh, the writers of the ancient testaments assumed that the people they were telling stories to had no way to verify the claims for themselves. So “embellishment” was a low-risk activity.

We do know from the available archaeological evidence that the Exodus probably actually happened to the Hyksos, not the Israelites. We know that the story of Moses is suspect because no Egyptian princess would hide a Hebrew child inside Pharaoh’s household, then give the kid a Hebrew name (“Moses” is actually an Egyptian title meaning “Prince” and is included in the names of many Pharaoh’s names such as Tut-Moses, Ah-Moses, Ra-Moses (Ramses) etc.)
Likewise, the story of Masada may be less than accurate. The remains found on the mountain were buried with pig bones, something no proper Jewish funeral would tolerate, which suggests that the bodies found and venerated as heroes of ancient Judea were actually those of dead Romans, for whom burial often involved animals as gifts to the spirit of the dead.

But a good story is a good story and the writers of the ancient texts were probably not thinking much further into the future than the guys who pen the “Celebrity dates space alien” stories you see at supermarket checkout lines. The fact that the celebrity is a real person does not prove the space alien exists. It’s just a story.
Given enough time, even a simple story written in jest can take on a life of its own. Scientology began as a bet between two science fiction writers; look how wide spread that has become in just a short time.

But, over time, entire religions with attendant wealth and power structures have been built on the premise that these old testament stories really happened exactly as written. And today, here in the 21st century world, science has started to catch up with these ancient legends and call many of them into doubt.

So, for a nation that justifies its existence on the writings of the Torah, the plethora of sites and artifacts confirming the ancient histories of Egypt, Iraq, Iran, etc. etc. etc. must seem a dire political threat for a nation whose own ancient history seems to have left little if any traces at all.

In that context, the strange behavior of the US military which posted guards around the Iraq oil ministry while bulldozing Iraq’s archaeological sites starts to make sense, if the supporters of a very insecure nation decide that leveling the archaeological playing field is preferable to allowing the obvious disparity in artifacts to remain visible to the world.

Attack on church not a ’hate crime’

Harvest Chapel church members were shocked to find the inside of their little church building totally destroyed by vandals this past Sunday.

“People were here for a Bible study Thursday night and everything was fine then,” Pastor Carol Hoke said. When the congregation gathered for their regularly scheduled 2 p.m. church service on Sunday, they were met with standing water on the floor, an overturned and broken piano, broken chairs thrown about the room, a broken toilet in the bathroom, as well as the sink torn from its wall. There was graffiti on the front door, the bathroom door and the prayer shawl (tallit). The racks of clothing free to those in need lay broken with the clothing soiled in the water from the bathroom.

Harvest Chapel opened its doors in the early part of 2008, becoming a safe haven for those who are outcast, Hoke said.

In a 2008 interview with the Herald Pastor Doug Hoke said, “We want to take care of their physical need as well as any spiritual need they might have.”

After finding the chapel in the condition it was left in my vandals this past weekend, Carol Hoke said she could not imagine why anyone would want to do this.

The police were called to the scene immediately after the vandalism was discovered. After asking if it could be considered a “hate crime,” Hoke said she was told that the state of Oklahoma only considers it a hate crime if it involves homosexuality, or racial issues.

“I told him if this had happened to an Islamic mosque or a Jewish temple, it would have been a hate crime,” Hoke said.

The graffiti included the pentagram and the symbol “6 6 6,” as well as blasphemous language toward God and Christ.

Carpets were saturated with water and glass, the PA system and overhead projector were demolished. An attempt was made to burn down the church, having a box of matches stacked around the gas line and lit, but due to the busted pipes and water spewing everywhere, it wouldnt burn.

Hoke said the items inside the building were not insured. “Everything had been donated to the church,” she said.

When asked if she had any idea who might have wanted to do this to Harvest Chapel, Hoke said she could not imagine who would ever want to do this. She couldn’t think of anyone who was angry at the church or any of the members.

The Chapel was not only a place for any person to come and worship, it was also a food bank and had free clothing for anyone who needed it. They had boxes of Christ-centered material (books and tapes) available to the public, plus a backpack program for children who needed school supplies.

The Harvest Chapel motto has always been “offering food, clothing and love,” and the members don’t care what you look like, how you are dressed or if you had a bath last night.

“It is what’s on the inside that’s important,” Doug Hoke said.

What was once a simple sanctuary used to worship God, now sits nearly totally destroyed. Very little was left untouched by the vandals.

“We are still victorious,” Hoke said. “God provided everything the first time, and He is able to do it again. The devil is definitely unhappy with us, and that suits us just fine.”

Despite the shock of such evil action toward a peace-loving congregation, they chose to worship the God they love. The small group gathered in the grassy area behind the church and had their Sunday afternoon worship services as planned.

WAKE UP-EXPERIMENTAL ADDITIVES

Swine flu vaccine manufacturers may be allowed to use experimental additives in the vaccines!?
Is the claim that they have not done this before legitimate?
The most common adjuvants presently allowed are Mercury (Thimerosol) and Aluminum Hydroxide. So, are these entirely new adjuvants? Is fast tracking these vaccines with experimental adjuvants a good idea?

In the U.S. an emergency declaration to use experimental additives made by GlaxoSmithKline Plc and Novartis AG to boost a limited supply of shots that will be available to fight the pandemic.
The ingredients, known as adjuvants, may be added for the first time to flu shots in the U.S.

“The question is, do you really feel comfortable throwing this new thing into the mix and do you really need to?” said Treanor, a professor of medicine, microbiology and immunology at the school in Rochester, New York. “I myself, if I had to do it, would really wrestle with that decision.”

Canada

As swine flu vaccine becomes available in coming months, boosting compounds known as adjuvants may stretch out limited supplies. But they also pose special challenges for vaccine regulatory agencies in places like Canada and the United States. Neither country has licensed flu vaccines with adjuvants in them before.

Witness reports suggest small aircraft crashed into rapids

Authorities are scouring the Ottawa River for what may be a crashed aircraft after receiving reports of unusual bright lights near the Deschenes Rapids on Monday night.

Ottawa police Const. Alain Boucher said police received several reports that lights were seen travelling at high speeds on the Ottawa River near the rapids at the Britannia Yacht Club about 10 p.m. on Monday.

There were also reports that some witnesses heard a loud bang shortly after seeing the lights.

Some reports indicated the lights appeared to be a plane, Boucher said. After contacting several airports in the area, police have no reports of a missing plane or any missing pilot, he said.

There has also been no sign of wreckage in the area, Boucher added.

The rapids were not searched overnight due to safety concerns.

The National Defence co-ordinator has sent out a plane to look in the area, he said. A military helicopter is also in the area and search and rescue teams are on site.

The police were continuing the search for any clues about the origin of the suspicious lights on Tuesday, he added.

Officials said the search is being treated as a retrieval mission.

Police: Woman accused of killing newborn ate brain

SAN ANTONIO (AP) – A woman charged with murdering her 3 1/2-week-old son used a knife and two swords to dismember the child and ate parts of his body, including his brain, before stabbing herself in the torso and slicing her own throat, police said Monday.Otty Sanchez, 33, is charged with capital murder in the death of her infant son, Scott Wesley Buchholtz-Sanchez. She was recovering from her wounds at a hospital, and was being held on $1 million bail.

San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said the early Sunday morning attack occurred a week after the child’s father moved out. The child’s aunt and two cousins, ages 5 and 7, were in the house, but none were harmed.

McManus, who appeared uncomfortable as he addressed reporters, said Sanchez apparently ate the child’s brain and some other body parts. She also tore his face off, chewed off three of his toes and decapitated the infant before stabbing herself.

“It’s too heinous for me to describe it any further,” McManus said.

Officers called to Sanchez’s house at about 5 a.m. Sunday found her sitting on the couch “screaming that she killed her baby,” police spokesman Joe Rios said. They found the boy’s body in a bedroom.

Police said Sanchez said the devil told her to kill her son.

“It was a spontaneous utterance,” McManus said. “She said she was hearing voices.”

Sanchez does not yet have a lawyer, police said, and was hospitalized in San Antonio. The police declined to identify other family members.

No one answered the door Monday at Sanchez’s home, where the blinds were shut. A hopscotch pattern and red hearts were drawn on the walk leading up to the house.

Neighbor Luis Yanez said everyone on the street was appalled by the news.

“Why would you do that to your baby?” said Yanez, 23, a tire technician. “It brings chills to you. They can’t defend themselves.”

What is wrong with you???

This one is addressed to all the talk surrounding the supposed H1N1 vaccine. The US govt has announced that there has een a stunning response for volunteers to receive the shot.

Are you guys idiots, or what?

It has not gone through the usual testing and clinical requirements. There is NO POSSIBLE WAY they can isolate the virus, as it appears to be constantly mutating…

Other governments have admitted it is getting difficult to isolate the virus…

Yet here you are, jumping up and down to receive this vaccine…

I cannot reiterate this enough…

I say it emphatically…

IF YOU AGREE TO VOLUNTEER FOR THIS, YOU ARE A MORON. PURE AND SIMPLE.

Sorry to sound harsh, but it is the truth.

Please think twice. Please do not volunteer your CHILDREN to get this vaccine.

I know nobody will listen to me anyway, I am just some crazy person.

That is okay…find out for yourself.
